Our lightly salted butter is fresh, creamy, and delicious because we make it the old-fashioned way.

We start with organic milk from grass-fed cows on sustainable family farms. We add Celtic Sea Salt ®, an unprocessed whole salt that is hand-harvested on the Brittany coast of France. These salt farmers have much in common with the dairy farmers who produce our milk. They provide food in its most natural state by using traditional farming methods that sustain the region’s environmental integrity.

Kalona SuperNatural butter has taken 1st and 2nd place in the Iowa Quality Dairy Products Contest at the 2018 Iowa State Fair. A 1st place blue ribbon award was given to our unsalted butter, while our lightly salted butter earned the 2nd place red ribbon.

Entries were judged by a panel of experienced judges based in the Midwest. The panel evaluated the technical and aesthetic merits of each entry using standard criteria. Both butter varieties earned the same awards in 2016 & 2017. We are thrilled to once again have our product recognized at the Fair!

Kalona SuperNatural™ is based in Kalona, Iowa, a small farming community in the heartland of America. We work with small, sustainable family farms to provide delicious, certified organic dairy products from pasture-grazed cows.

From grass-fed cows, pasture-grazed on small family farms that never use GMOs, herbicides or pesticides, our milk is Batch-pasteurized (NEVER Ultra-pasteurized) and Non-homogenized with a delicious Cream-Top.

Our Milk Starts on Small Family Farms

About 60 of them, mostly in Kalona, Iowa but a few in Bloomfield, Missouri and Illinois. These small farms with an average of 35 cows per herd are owned mostly by Amish and Mennonite families for generations.

Ecological Oasis

Surrounded by conventional farms, our farms are ecological oasis that rejuvenate soil, protect watersheds, and store carbon. You can see it happening.

Going Beyond USDA Certified Organic Standards

Getting organic certification wasn’t a big deal for our farms. After all, they’d been using mostly organic practices for generations.

To be certified organic, cows must be grazed on pasture for a minimum of 120 days per year. Our farmers go beyond this organic standard.

Even in winter, cows continue to be grass-fed, eating organic grasses, forage and vegetables grown on their families’ or community members’ organic farms.

This is good for the health of our animals and your family.

From Farm to Family

Our farms do such a great job producing delicious natural milk that we take care to not mess it up with too much processing. At our creameries, our milk is NEVER ultra-pasteurized or homogenized.
