Our Story

I'm Chelsa. (Pronounced Chels-uh.) Owner, visionary and resident baker at Bread By Chelsa B. 

After a lifelong love affair with bread, in 2020, I decided to teach myself how to make sourdough. Throughout the year my bread making transitioned from a hobby to a practice of self-care. Then I decided to participate in the nationwide bake sale, Bakers Against Racism, started making bread for my neighbors and friends, and now I’m taking orders and selling my bread throughout Des Moines. In January of 2021, I had my kitchen certified and officially became an LLC. This little hobby has slowly taken on something bigger. I’m not sure where the future will take me but I’m excited at the potential and magic it holds.

Baking delicious bread, with the very best ingredients is my passion. I love food. I love bread. I love sharing the food I love. I love learning about where food comes from. How it makes it to our plate. What did it take to get here? Where do the ingredients originate? Who grows them? What are the origins of the grains I pour into each loaf of bread? The history, the science, the story. It's all incredibly important to me. And I hope, as I learn, I can share more with you.
